Soldiers’ Financial Debts – Aspects

An acquaintance was the owner of a large road construction company. He employed several hundred people. The company had all the necessary road equipment, huge transport vehicles, and accompanying infrastructure.

The owner received a subcontract from a larger company. During the long-term project, he had to pay in advance for materials, equipment, employees, social insurance contributions, and taxes, yet the contracting company did not pay him.

The business collapsed over several years; employees recovered their wages through the courts. He lost everything, including houses and movable property. In the small town, people felt sorry both for him and for the company that had provided jobs—albeit in the wind and often in bad weather.

The cause appeared to have a karmic character.

Previously, he had been some kind of warlord who gathered a considerable band in Asia. As often happened after a series of battles or raids, he hired himself out to a certain ruler for military service. The work was done in the wind and often in bad weather.

They took payment in advance for their task—for protection or for fighting—and then disappeared. The ruler was left without his mercenary army and without his money. We do not know the fate of the betrayed one.

Now, after several centuries, without receiving payment he accepted well-executed work from a subcontractor, because he remembered that the payment had already been given to that one in a previous incarnation.
