A Prayer Different From All Others

Psalm 51 in Two Versions (David’s Version and the Modernized Version)

The art of writing affirmations assumes affirming in the completed tense. Therefore, it was necessary to change the very formula of the text into one of gratitude for blessings already received. In other words, I have already received what David was still asking for. He did not dare thank God for something he had not yet received.

As a consequence of this change in the method of writing prayer, the energies within us flow differently already during the reading itself, and the results are different as well.

I am grateful, God, that You have shown mercy to me and to my soul, and that You have opened my heart.

I am grateful, God, that in the abundance of Your love You have freed me and my soul from all unrighteousness and from all its consequences.

I am grateful, Light, that You have completely washed me and my soul from our faults and every stain.

Love, together with my soul I am grateful that You have cleansed us from all sins and from their consequences.

For I have acknowledged and forgiven the wrongful deeds of myself, of my soul, and of its former personalities. I am grateful, God, that You allowed us to recognize our past wrongdoings and forgive them all, together with all their consequences.

I accept that by forgiving myself and my soul for our entire troubled past, we have already surrendered our sins to God, allowing them to depart completely.

I have forgiven the fact that my soul incarnated burdened with guilt and that my mother conceived me as a sinner.

I have forgiven the fact that my soul once sinned against the Light, using divine powers for destruction.

I have forgiven the fact that my soul and its personalities once did something evil and unworthy in Your sight, God.

I have forgiven myself and my soul for our faults, and I have also forgiven all who were indebted to me; therefore You prove Yourself just in Your judgments and righteous in Your divine verdict.

Love, together with my soul I am grateful that You have purified us so that we may receive forgiveness and become clean and upright.

Love, I am grateful that You have washed me completely, so that I may shine brighter than thousands of suns.

I am grateful, God, that You have enabled me to gain and feel lasting joy of soul and gladness of heart.

I am grateful, God, that You have gladdened my heart, my liver, and my bones.

I am grateful, God, that You did not turn away from me but loved me when I stretched my hands toward You.

Love, together with my soul I am grateful that You have erased all my transgressions and the faults of my soul.

I am grateful, God, that You created within me a pure heart when I asked You for it.

I am grateful, God, that You renewed within me the good powers of the heart, as well as the power and wings of my soul.

I am grateful, God, that You did not reject me from before Your presence, always granting me protection and lasting refuge in You.

I am grateful, God, that You always allow me to feel mercy and experience Your grace.

I am grateful, God, that You restored to me the joy of Your effective deliverance.

Love, together with my soul I am grateful that You freed us from the stain of blood once shed. God, my Savior—my tongue continually praises Your righteousness.

Lord, together with my soul I am grateful that You opened my lips so that my mouth may proclaim Your glory.

My offering to God is a contrite soul and a heart open to the lasting flow of Light.

I am grateful that You accepted my humble heart, O God, showing me the grace of Your love and rebuilding the bright, pure, and beautiful energies of my soul.

My offering to God is all my words, thoughts, and deeds.

I am grateful that in Your goodness You showed mercy to me and to my soul, once lost and wandering.

PSALM 51 – David’s Version

Have mercy on me, O God,
have mercy on me.

In the greatness of Your love blot out my transgression.

Wash me completely from my guilt
and cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my transgression,
and my sin is always before me.

I was born burdened with guilt,
and my mother conceived me as a sinner.

Against You alone have I sinned,
and I have done what is evil in Your sight.

Therefore You are just in Your judgments
and righteous in Your verdict.

Cleanse me with hyssop and I shall be clean;
wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones You have crushed rejoice.

Turn Your face away from my sins
and blot out all my transgressions.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me away from Your presence
and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and renew within me a willing spirit.

I will teach Your ways to those who stray,
and sinners will return to You.

Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, my Savior,
and my tongue will praise Your righteousness.

Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will proclaim Your praise.

For You do not delight in sacrifice,
and though I offered burnt offerings, You would not accept them.

My sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit;
a humble and repentant heart, O God, You will not despise.

Show favor to Zion in Your love;
rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Have mercy on me, O God,
have mercy in Your compassion.
