Female Tensions, Sexuality and “Uterine Hysteria” – intentions
Uterine hysteria. Let us speculate about the patterns. For 100 years, the term was used in diagnoses of women, as I understand it, with sexual problems — lack of sex and so on. But similar symptoms are also found in men. What psychological and karmic patterns, then, can we generally perceive in this subject?
I would separate historical “hysteria” from sexuality. For centuries it was associated with the uterus — the name itself comes from the Greek hystéra, meaning “uterus” — but the later nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century diagnosis of “hysteria” encompassed an enormous variety of symptoms: fainting, convulsions, paralysis without an identifiable neurological cause, breathlessness, pain, emotional attacks, sensory disturbances, dissociative behaviours and so on. Sexual problems were sometimes included in the explanations, but lack of sex was not simply the cause of “uterine hysteria”.
When we treat the former concept of “hysteria” not as a disease of the uterus, especially in men, but as a historical catch-all category into which various psychological and psychosomatic phenomena were placed, similar mechanisms may indeed occur in both sexes. Today, some former cases might be considered, among other things, in terms of dissociative disorders, functional neurological symptoms, reactions to trauma, anxiety or somatisation, in which difficult emotions and psychological stress are transformed into real physical bodily ailments.
When we speculate about psychological patterns, rather than making a diagnosis, I would primarily see:
- the body speaking on behalf of the Soul. (On behalf of the so-called psyche, since Psyche in Greek means Soul). A person is unable to name tension, conflict, anger, fear or need, and therefore experiences them primarily through the body;
- the karma of the Soul. One should look broadly, from the burdens of prostitutes, witches and Mothers of God to the patterns of a gay man, a paedophile or a broadly understood deviant;
- vows of asceticism and celibacy made in previous incarnations of the Soul, for example in Christianity, Buddhism, Hindu sects and elsewhere;
- self-castrations, so fashionable today in the form of sex reassignment. In Thailand, 2% of the population undergoes castration. I sometimes already encounter people following such an incarnation;
- the desire–prohibition conflict — “I want to, but I am not allowed to”, particularly in relation to sexuality, intimacy, pleasure, aggression, autonomy or opposition;
- intense arousal without the possibility of release — not only sexual release, which during orgasm disperses through the feet, but also emotional release; the body remains in a state of chronic tension;
- suppression of sexuality — shame concerning one’s own desire, prohibition of masturbation, fear of sex, guilt after becoming aroused, conflict between sexual needs and norms acquired from family or religion;
- sexual frustration as one element of a larger conflict — lack of satisfying sex may increase tension, irritability or frustration, but I would not create the simple equation “lack of sex = hysteria”;
- the need for intimacy combined with fear of intimacy — a person simultaneously draws a partner closer and pushes them away;
- fear of abandonment — extremely strong reactions to a partner’s distance, lack of interest, refusal of sex or the feeling of being unimportant;
- the need to confirm one’s own attractiveness — “if I am desired, I am valuable”;
- sex as an emotional regulator — using eroticism, seduction, orgasm or other people’s interest to reduce tension, emptiness, loneliness or fear;
- sex as a field of control — giving and withholding intimacy, provoking jealousy, punishing through refusal, gaining an advantage through sexuality;
- difficulty expressing anger directly — instead of saying “I am furious”, a person becomes ill, faints, suffers, withdraws or reacts dramatically;
- the need to be noticed — increasing expression when ordinary communication of needs produces no result;
- catastrophising experiences — a minor event triggers bodily and emotional reactions disproportionate to the situation;
- suggestibility and susceptibility to the emotional atmosphere of the environment;
- dissociation — cutting oneself off from one’s own emotions, body, memories or sense of reality when tension becomes too intense;
- conversion of psychological conflict into a bodily symptom — not in the sense of consciously “pretending”, but as the genuine experience of a symptom;
- learned dramatic ways of communicating suffering — especially when calm communication was ignored within the family, while a crisis immediately mobilised those around the person;
- an internal conflict between the need for control and the need to surrender to emotions;
- shame concerning one’s own body and its reactions;
- fear of losing control over the body, sexuality or emotions;
- chronic life in a state of autonomic nervous system tension, in which fight, flight, freeze or fainting reactions may be mistakenly interpreted as “hysterical behaviour”.
Interestingly, men themselves provide a strong argument against the literal concept of “uterine hysteria”. A man may, after all, experience functional paralysis, tremors, non-epileptic seizures, fainting, dissociative symptoms, somatisation or a violent emotional reaction without possessing a uterus.
In the context of working with the karma of the Soul, whether through prayer or the intentions technique, an even narrower subject would be particularly interesting: “sexual hysteria” understood not as a medical condition, but as a pattern of increasing tension surrounding desire, lack of fulfilment, rejection, sexual prohibitions, shame and the need to be desired. It has been developed separately for women and men, without repeating the old myth that the uterus is the source of the problem. Although who knows whether the original cause did not lie in a female incarnation and in the burdens of a nymphomaniac. We developed it as two parallel subjects — female and male, treating “sexual hysteria” as a working name for a set of patterns of psychological, emotional and sexual tension rather than as a contemporary medical diagnosis. Analogous male patterns are developed in the text entitled
“Male Sexual and Psychological Tensions – intentions”
Authors: Sławomir Majda, Małgorzata Krata. The identical recurring fragment, forming the core of the idea, is as follows:“being those women who experience increasing psychological, emotional and bodily tension connected with their own sexuality, need for intimacy, desire, lack of fulfilment, rejection or inability to freely express their own sexual needs; respectively suppressing their own desire, sexual needs, fantasies, longing for touch, intimacy and being desired because of shame, fear, upbringing, moral, religious, family or social prohibitions, as well as because of the sexual karma of the Soul’s other incarnations; respectively experiencing a conflict between what the body desires, what the Soul desires and what the personality allows itself; respectively feeling that their own sexual needs are improper, dirty, dangerous, sinful, humiliating or evidence of weakness; respectively accumulating unexpressed sexual and emotional tension until it leads to irritability, crying, outbursts of anger, despair, sudden mood changes, impulsive behaviours or bodily symptoms; respectively transferring sexual frustration onto men close to them, family, children, those around them, work and everyday conflicts; respectively seeking fulfilment in sex, sexual interest or confirmation of their own attractiveness in order to regain peace, a sense of security and their own value; respectively making their own well-being dependent on whether a partner shows interest, desires them, touches them, initiates sexual intercourse and confirms their attractiveness; respectively experiencing sexual refusal as rejection of themselves as women, loss of their own value, humiliation or proof of a lack of love; respectively reacting with anger, crying, grievances, withdrawal, punishment, jealousy or dramatisation to the lack of expected sexual intimacy; respectively desiring sexuality and simultaneously fearing it, provoking intimacy and withdrawing from it, seducing and rejecting, demanding interest and fearing its consequences; respectively using sexuality to regulate fear, loneliness, tension, emotional emptiness, a sense of insignificance or the need to be noticed; respectively using their own attractiveness, sexuality, availability or sexual refusal as ways of gaining control over a partner and the relationship; respectively experiencing unexpressed psychological conflicts through the body, muscular tension, pain, weakness, a sense of breathlessness, trembling, heart palpitations or other genuinely experienced bodily reactions; respectively creating a severe crisis so that those around them notice the suffering that they are unable to communicate calmly and directly; respectively learning to recognise their own tensions, emotions, sexual needs and needs for intimacy without having to transform them into a crisis, conflict or bodily symptoms, completing these processes with God”.

The word “–not” added to some word while working with intentions means that it is worth expressing it also in its opposite, or even finding and saying aloud any synonyms that come to mind together with their opposites. For example — when saying: being poor, being sick, it is good to say it also with its opposite:–being poor, being sick, –not being poor, not being sick. This allows you to move a given pattern as broadly as possible, touching different aspects, including its opposite. It is also worth knowing that Souls often think or claim that they do not have such opposite patterns — for example, that they are not idolaters in a given case (in a given word). Another example: A woman’s Soul denies ever being a bad mother. Therefore, adding here the negating form — not being a bad mother — may allow her to understand the state she is in. Being a bad mother, –not being a bad mother–“—Oh, absolutely not, never in my life! These are certainly not my patterns. What I do is my private matter.” [—The Soul very often says or thinks this about itself.]
