A Prayer Different From All Others

Psalm 119 – Modernized Version

The art of writing affirmations assumes affirming in the already-accomplished tense. Therefore, it was necessary to change the very formula of the text into one of thanksgiving for blessings already received. In other words, I have already received what David was only seeking. He did not dare thank God for what he had not yet received.

As a consequence of changing the technique of writing prayer, the energies within us flow differently even while reading, and the results are different as well.

There are several Psalms on the website presented in my version of contemporary language.

Psalm 119 – Modernized Version

God, please open my heart now.

I always walk happily in the Light, upon a straight and undefiled path.

I am always happy, following Divine Law.

I am always happy, listening to the voice of my heart,

Seeking God with all my heart, soul, and mind,

I go forth to meet God.

I am always happy, committing no wrongdoing,

But walking in His ways.

I am always happy, fulfilling the will of God.

I always walk happily in the Light, upon a straight path, fulfilling the will of God.

I am free from shame,

Paying attention to every Divine prompting, to the clear voice of a pure heart.

I always give thanks with a sincere heart, understanding Divine justice.

I observe Divine laws, and the Creator always protects and supports me.

I always keep my path in purity,

By observing Your words.

With all my heart I always seek You, God;

Grateful that You have not allowed me to stray from the path of a Being of Light.

Within my heart I keep Your words, O God,

So that I may not sin against God and my fellow beings, nor stain my soul.

Blessed are You, God,

For teaching me Your laws and granting me true knowledge.

With my lips I proclaim all the judgments of Your mouth.

I rejoice in the way of Divine guidance, recommendations, and admonitions,

As in every kind of wealth.

I reflect upon Divine decrees.

Divine recommendations, insights, and inspirations bring me joy:

I never wish to omit or forget Divine words.

Fragments of David’s Longest Psalm

Blessed are those whose way is undefiled,

Who walk according to the Law of the Lord.

Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,

Who seek Him with all their heart,

Who do no wrong,

But walk in His ways.

You have given Your commandments,

That they should be diligently observed.

Oh, that my ways may be steadfast

In keeping Your statutes!

Then I shall not be ashamed,

When I pay attention to all Your commandments.

I will thank You with a sincere heart,

When I learn the judgments of Your righteousness.

I will keep Your statutes;

Never forsake me!

Beth

How shall a young man keep his way pure?

By observing Your words.

With all my heart I seek You;

Do not let me stray from Your commandments!

I have treasured Your word in my heart,

That I may not sin against You.

Blessed are You, Lord,

Teach me Your statutes!

With my lips I proclaim

All the judgments of Your mouth.

I rejoice in the way of Your testimonies

As in all riches.

I will meditate on Your precepts

And consider Your paths.

I will delight in Your statutes;

I will not forget Your words.
