A Prayer Different From All Others

General’s Snakes (Epaulettes)

Some armies mark their highest-ranking military commanders with batons, crossed sabers, stars, or other insignia.
In many countries, including Switzerland, Poland, and Croatia, decorative serpent-like symbols have also appeared as elements of generals’ insignia.

Why snakes?

According to certain clairvoyant traditions and esoteric interpretations, some people claim to perceive large astral snakes attached to the shoulders or energy fields of military leaders such as generals, hetmans, beys, and other commanders. Within such interpretations, these snakes are regarded not as mere symbols but as energetic structures associated with authority, command, warfare, responsibility, hierarchy, and the exercise of power.

From this perspective, the visible military insignia are seen as a reflection of something believed to exist on an energetic level. Whether such entities are regarded as independent beings, symbolic thought-forms, karmic structures, egregorial manifestations, or psychological projections depends entirely on the worldview of the observer.

Some esoteric practitioners maintain that these “general’s snakes” differ from other symbolic serpents encountered in energetic work. They describe them as persistent companions connected with command, leadership, military responsibility, obedience, strategic thinking, and the consequences of decisions affecting large groups of people.

Within these interpretations, the issue is not necessarily that the snakes “feed” on energy in an obvious way. Rather, over successive incarnations or life experiences, they are believed to become increasingly burdensome. The individual may experience a sensation of heaviness around the shoulders, neck, and upper back, regardless of present gender or social role.

Massage of the neck and shoulder region may temporarily ease physical tension. However, according to these spiritual interpretations, no physical treatment can remove what is viewed as the energetic burden of responsibility accumulated through military command, warfare, leadership decisions, or authority over the lives of others.

Some traditions describe another category known as “imperial snakes.” These are said to be considerably larger than the so-called general’s snakes and are associated not merely with military command but with imperial ambition, domination, conquest, and rulership. In such narratives, emperors and rulers are believed to display these serpentine structures throughout various regions of their energetic anatomy as symbols of power and sovereignty.

From a historical and academic standpoint, however, military insignia featuring serpent motifs are generally explained through symbolism. Across many cultures, snakes have represented wisdom, vigilance, strategic thinking, renewal, authority, hidden knowledge, healing, or power. The appearance of serpent imagery in military traditions is usually understood as part of this broader symbolic heritage rather than evidence of objectively existing astral beings.
