A Prayer Different From All Others

Sci Vias Domini (Know the Ways of the Lord) – Prayer

I accept and forgive myself for seeking the way of the Lord without knowing who this Lord was or where I could find Him. I accept that God is One God, and therefore neither I nor anyone else needs to use substitutes for the word God, such as deity, Source, Universe, Lord, Shekhinah, Guru, and the like.

I accept that the word Lord does not necessarily mean God, for many deities of both the modern East and West are addressed by this title, including: Lord Jesus, Lord Vishnu, Lord Buddha, Lord Shiva, and Lord Krishna. I accept that Pan is the name of a Greek god who watched over fields and forests and protected shepherds and their flocks. I know that within the Roman pantheon of gods and goddesses, Pan was identified with Faunus or with the forest god Silvanus.

I accept that the Greek-Hellenic Pan was, and still is, depicted as half human and half animal, possessing the torso and face of a man, covered entirely with hair, with goat legs, a tail, a beard, and horns. His appearance resembled that of a satyr, who was sometimes also called a Pan. Therefore, I no longer wish to confuse other people’s opinions about the Lord to whom they pray with true knowledge of God, nor do I wish to call upon any Lord for any purpose whatsoever.

I have chosen a path that leads me not to some Lord, but to God, who gave life to me and to all people.

Please, God, guide me along the straight path, the path of those whom You have blessed with grace; not the path of those upon whom Your anger rests, nor the path of those who have gone astray.
